There are two types of businesses registered under GST those are regular and composition. Composition GST registered person shall file returns on quarterly basis and regular GST registered persons shall file every month GSTR 1 (details of sales) and GSTR 3B (monthly summary)

GSTR 1 has to be filed every month by 11th and the due dates of GSTR3B has been changed by government for taxpayers whose turnover is less than Rs.5 crores, the due date would be 22nd for some states and 24th for the remaining states. For taxpayers having turnover more than Rs.5 crores, the due date would be 20th of subsequent month.

An annual return GSTR 9 must be filed by all GST registered businesses on or before 31st Decemeber of a year and GSTR 9C known as GST Annual Audit, a reconciliation statement which needs to be certified by a practicing chartered accountant.

A business must file nil GST returns in case of there are no sales and purchases to avoid late fees levied by government.
